Christmas Joy In The Midst Of Confusing Pain

To God’s Beloved At Cloverdale Baptist Church:

It is not fun to live in a broken world.  Some of you feel this most profoundly during Christmas…and so we pray for so many who struggle at this time of year.  For me…it is putting cream on my face that causes it to break out in sores and sting like crazy.  Thank you for your patience with me as I finish this treatment.  Day 21 is on Wednesday, and then I get to relax and recover.  Thank you for your prayers and support during this time, it is appreciated!  ALMOST THERE!  God willing this will be the last time I have to go through this and my pre-cancer will be in submission for a LONG TIME!  My own emotions seem to have found a way to jump up and down during these 21 days, not always sure why, might be the chemo cream, or might be psychosomatic, but they have made me laugh as I experience silly emotions over simple things.  What a reminder for me of the importance of CALLING TO MIND who God is and what God has done in the midst of all of life.  My trial which is so small, and yet has felt so big, is a great reminder of our need to be loyal to Jesus and seek His glory, especially when we feel a little overwhelmed.

When things are not easy, how can you stand firm in the HOPE, PEACE, and JOY of Jesus?  I think the most important answer is that we treasure Jesus in our hearts more than anyone or anything else.  Then as we experience His presence in the journey we can build from there HOPE, JOY and PEACE no matter what comes our way.  IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL!

Call to mind today the love of God that would send Jesus to die in our place.  Call to mind His resurrection that proves we have life after death.  Call to mind your forgiveness IN CHRIST, and the reality that you are apart of His plan!  Seek to take captive every thought and make it obedient to Jesus, and this Christmas and beyond you can experience the JOY, HOPE, and PEACE that we LOVE to sing about.

As Christmas approaches let us be reminded to share Jesus with others and use opportunities to invite them into our services…if each of us invites a few people, and a one of those we invite comes, we will not have space in our building, and wouldn’t that be an AMAZING problem to have…

I love Christmas, I hate chemo cream, and I am thankful that I am IN CHRIST, who can give me inner tranquility, and guard my heart and mind IN CHRIST JESUS no matter what the storm is around me!  We have the reality in our relationship with God that gives us peace that transcends understanding, joy that superscedes our experiences and hope always in His reality.  Oh to experience more and more His love!

A Fellow Pilgrim Experiencing HOPE, JOY, PEACE & LOVE in this broken world,

Sunday Is Coming:

Title:  Jesus Is Our Joy

Text:  1 Peter 1:3-11

  • What is a biblical definition of joy?
  • Why is it important to distinguish between joy and happiness?
  • How can we experience inexpressible and glorious joy in every situation?
  • Why would the God who loves us command us to be joyful?
  • What does being joyful look like in everyday life for followers of Jesus in a broken world?

The kids will be helping us to worship God in song this coming Sunday so invite your families to enjoy our precious children ministering to us!
